When going through old things, women often find men's shirts that their loved one no longer wears. It's a shame to throw away practically new wardrobe items, but every needlewoman will want to try to come up with a fashionable thing, for example, sew a dress from a man's shirt. Old things make new, light outfits.
Technology of work implementation
First, take measurements. Take a shirt one or two sizes larger than your measurements in pastel colors, stripes or checks. Then carefully inspect the item for defects and damage.
Next, prepare the necessary tools for sewing:
- A measuring tape,
- Sewing scissors,
- Chalk or a piece of soap for drawing on fabric,
- Threads to match the fabric,
- Additional accessories that will be used in the work (elastic bands, buttons, beads, pins).
The shirt is pre-washed and ironed.
Pick up a shirt
For sewing, choose a thing that has not lost the brightness of color, the integrity of the material, without stains and holes. A voluminous shirt larger than women's parameters will do, so that it is easier to cut.
How to make a dress from a shirt for the summer: for an update, choose a shirt made of light natural summer materials. Linen, cotton, poplin will do. A thing with a complex pattern will not work - it will be more difficult to remake. For a future dress from a men's shirt, take things made of thin fabrics with a simple design.

Select style
The following outfits can be made from an old men's shirt:
- Summer off shoulder outfit;
- Long top or tunic;
- Business style shirt dress;
- Youthful outfit in street style.
A summer outfit with open shoulders will be a fashionable and simple option for alteration. It is not difficult to sew. This item will suit young girls and older women. Such an outfit looks easy and casual. Shirt-style items are at the peak of popularity in the summer, and bare shoulders will emphasize femininity and attractiveness.

Cut off the excess
The alteration of a man's shirt begins with a pattern. Place the shirt face down on a flat surface. Draw a semicircle with chalk from the left shoulder to the right - this is the future rollout. Cut off the top along this line. Then tuck the cut areas inward and secure with pins. This will be a drawstring, into which the elastic is pulled after hemming.
If the choice falls on a model with a one-piece front, then the pattern is made without unbuttoning the shirt.
You can also experiment with modeling a shirt dress for a young girl. A light summer shirt made of natural fabrics, plain, pastel colors will do. If the bottom edge is not even, made in a semicircle, it is cut off evenly. This will be the bottom. The cut is carefully hemmed or processed with an overlock. Then a white fabric 20 cm wide is sewn to the bottom edge. This will be the hem. Having converted the shirt into a dress, we get an outfit with an original insert along the bottom.
If the sleeves are too long, they are shortened to the required size. This advice is relevant for both the first and second models.

Hem the sleeves
The cuts on the sleeves and on the roll-out are folded and stitched. On the roll-out, this is done in such a way that the elastic is pulled in. An indent of 2–3 cm is left to the seam. The sleeve is made of normal length or ¾. The edge is folded 2 times by 1 cm and stitched.

Sew on buttonholes and buttons
The resulting sleeves require buttons on the cuffs. You can sew on one or two. Also make loops. First, use the sharp end of scissors to cut small holes at the button level. Then each buttonhole is processed manually or by machine to protect the fabric from fraying.

We create a children's model
You can make a children's dress from a small men's shirt with your own hands. This work will not take much time. First, cut off the top of the shirt at shoulder level, rip off the sleeves. They are cut in half - for the future dress, leave only the upper part from the shoulder to the elbow.
For the pattern, use an old children's sarafan of the required size. Apply it to a shirt without a collar and sleeves, outline the contour.
The resulting silhouette is cut out, the edges are processed with an overlock. If the machine does not have such a function, the cut area is folded and ironed with a hot iron, stitched.
Next, sew the sleeves into place. Hem the edge so that the elastic can be inserted. Overlock the neck, fold it inward and stitch, leaving 2 cm. Pull the elastic into the gap. The neck will be gathered.
Then determine where the belt will be on the dress. From a piece of white fabric 12 cm wide and the length corresponding to the child's waist, create a belt. Fold the fabric in half along the wrong side and stitch along the edge. Turn the resulting belt right side out using a pin. Apply to the waistline and secure with pins. Sew the belt in several tracks 2-3, depending on how many elastic bands are planned to be inserted. Make 3 tracks of 3 cm each. As soon as the belt is sewn on, pull the elastic bands into the resulting gaps. After spending 2 hours, you get a children's dress from a man's shirt.

Fashionable images
A simple shirt outfit is suitable for the summer season. Such things look casual in the city or by the sea. A voluminous fabric bag or a small one in bright colors with an original print will suit a fashionable look. Summer shoes without heels look good with such an outfit: sandals, sandals, slippers in an ethnic style. White sneakers or sneakers of a deliberately rough cut will also suit.
With a few hours of free time, an old shirt, basic cutting and sewing skills, housewives create fashionable, interesting looks at home without extra costs. Women are happy to replenish their wardrobe, especially if it is quick and inexpensive. A thing sewn with your own hands is especially pleasant to wear.
