Stylish lace wedding dresses have been popular for a long time, they give the bride a special femininity and incredible elegance. Traditionally, the top of the dress was decorated with lace, but times change, and with them, so do styles. For quite a long time, leading models of wedding dresses have been made entirely of light lace.
Types of lace
There are a huge number of different types of lace, but the following options are most often used for making wedding dresses:
- guipure;
- whooping bobbin;
- seam;
- needle;
- lace macrame;
- Point D'Esprit;
- Shanty;
- Alencon;
- Lyon;
- shifli.
The colors of the dresses remain traditional, with light, delicate shades often chosen:
- beige,
- white,
- light pink,
- pearl.
Contrasting elements of gold or silver are often added, and on a white dress the lace can be chosen in dark blue or red, pink. Due to the large variation of models, today light lace of almost any size is used: from the largest, densest, to more miniature.
Dresses with not very full skirts usually have a satin (or similar material) petticoat or underskirt. On top are several lighter layers of material, the top of which can be trimmed with lace. Often, lace embroidery is used, which can be done by hand, which makes the design unique and more expensive.
White or beige dresses are beautifully complemented by bright embroidery accents, they will add originality and festivity. The embroidery is done with thin threads, often by hand; special metallic threads can be used (they can decorate small details). Often the patterns are made in the form of multi-colored flowers, buds or leaves. Bees or butterflies can be embroidered around them. If the wedding is planned on a specific theme, then this can become the theme for embroidery. For example, if the wedding is on a marine theme, fish can be embroidered. The patterns can be repeated on the groom's collar or a handkerchief, which is put away in the breast pocket.

Model options
Today, the variations of wedding dress models are huge, in stores you can find the most incredible models of wedding dresses or, on the contrary, quite traditional ones. But every bride dreams of that very dress of her dreams.
With sleeves
Wide sleeves of several styles look great on narrow dresses or dresses that flare out slightly towards the bottom. The simplest design with traditional touches is translucent puff sleeves, which gradually flare out and are buttoned or secured with an elastic band at the very bottom. Another option looks perfect with lace dresses that resemble a sarafan. Asymmetrical sleeves are loose, with a looser cut towards the bottom, in the shape of a cone.
The most popular sleeve shapes are:
- narrow;
- with a length of ¾;
- "butterfly";
- translucent lanterns;
- wide straps;
- flared sleeves.
A sleeveless dress can be complemented with a cape of a matching material.
With open back
Dresses with an open back are elegant and slightly sexy. The corset-based top is a bit outdated, so light, not at all tight-fitting motifs are popular now. Sometimes they are made of satin or silk fabrics, but more often they are complemented by light materials. They can be the main material, then the top will be translucent, or they can be fastened over another material. With simple, slightly spacious skirts, tops like loose T-shirts with thin straps will look interesting and advantageous. Attractive and quite revealing styles with cutouts on the sides and chest, where the material is used only in the front, like a T-shirt.
Simple, fitted styles with a narrow or straight bottom often acquire a provocative twist that completely changes the perception of the dress thanks to a neckline that goes all the way down the back. Wedding dresses with a lace top, or just the sleeves, or the entire top are often made with a neckline on the back. The sleeves can be transparent, made of lace only, or decorated with lace over another fabric. This style is interesting precisely because it is completely closed and modest, with the exception of the bare back.
Fish
The fairytale style "Mermaid" or "Fish" is distinguished by its unusual shape of the skirt. The skirt is quite narrow at the top, tightly fitting the hips, from the knees there is a lush expansion. This style is incredibly beautiful, looks graceful with a long train, starting from the expansion. Due to the interesting shape of the skirt, the mermaid dress will emphasize curvy hips, since the bottom is wide and the shape of the calves is not visible, it will make a pear-shaped figure or a woman with full legs elegant.
A compromise between an elaborate lace decoration and a very simple, modest design will be a lace gradient. At the bottom, on the hem, including the train, an abundance of patterns or embroidery is made, perhaps even in a solid layer. Then a smaller volume of lace is added to the top, somewhere in large pieces, somewhere in single cutouts. So, gradually it becomes less and less. The top can be densely decorated with lace, made with lace inserts or left empty, modest.
With a train
Trains look incredibly beautiful with almost any style of dress. They add a special royal grandeur. If the wedding dress with a train is long enough and you don’t want it to drag on the ground, you can ask small children to carry it. This looks cute, and children will be happy to play such a very special role.
Trains on short dresses have become especially popular lately. When the skirt looks short in front, and a lush, light train starts from the sides and back. Often, this model takes a slightly different shape, gradually lengthening. The skirt can be made in one layer in stages: short in front, medium length on the sides and long in the back. Or a multi-layered variation is possible, created from a huge number of light layers. In such skirts, the very bottom of the hem is sometimes made in a different color, which becomes an original accent.
With a full skirt
Ball gowns, like Cinderella's, with a voluminous bottom look amazing. They come in two main types:
- with lush multi-layered skirts
- with a voluminous, dense single top layer.
In the case of a thick skirt, several large folds coming from the waist will be an interesting element. A lace top will perfectly complement an otherwise strict style. Especially if small pieces of lace extend beyond the corset and seem to flow smoothly into the sleeves and skirt. As for the sleeves, in this case, wide straps will be an elegant option if they are made of lace or complemented with it.
Length variations
The length of the dress is chosen absolutely individually. Often young girls choose models above the knee or a couple of centimeters below, although there are wedding dresses with a mini length. Such models look better on thin girls with an ideal or almost ideal figure. However, they will look no worse on women with an "apple" figure. The peculiarity of this type is that a large torso is compensated by thin, beautiful legs and arms, so short skirts in this case will be the ideal solution.
The main and most beautiful styles of short dresses:
- pack.
- straight or A-line.
- pencil.
- sun skirt.
- with smell.
Straight skirts on short dresses are often trimmed with lace, which makes them look more interesting.
Although floor-length skirts may be the most traditional option, they are undoubtedly more feminine than other models. Long dresses have much more variations and variety of choice. The positive side is that styles can have a wide variety of skirt widths. Often, slightly shorter models are chosen, which are more comfortable to move in. The hem may not be uniformly decorated, but, for example, have flounces, folds, lace trim. The hem can be specially hemmed at a certain interval, or secured with special fasteners.
Decorations
One of the main points when preparing for a wedding and choosing a dress is the selection of accessories and jewelry. The most important element of a wedding dress will certainly be a veil. Every bride dreams of a long veil, in which it is literally easy to get tangled. There are many variations:
- in one layer, which falls back;
- double, with a long layer at the back and a short one at the front that barely covers your face;
- multi-layered and very voluminous.
A voluminous and long veil looks stunning with modest and simple, fitted dresses. A simple single-layer or short veil will suit lush, ball gowns. The fabric of the veil is traditionally made of lightweight material, but there are also denser variations. Often, attention is focused on the edging and decorations of the fabric. The edging can be smooth or wavy, sometimes it is trimmed, and it can be decorated with metallic thread. Often, the veil is trimmed with lace along the edge or a gradient. A lace veil will suit only a lace wedding dress. You can also choose a lace cape for a wedding dress for such a dress. You can throw a fur cape or a lace bolero on top.
A not very deep necklace will suit a dress with a neckline, a dress without a neckline can be complemented with not very large beads. Now thin chains are sold that go down the back, which are suitable for decorating dresses with an open back. Bracelets can be worn with a sleeveless dress or with shortened or tight sleeves. Brides often wear miniature tiaras over or instead of a veil. It is better if the jewelry is selected in the same style.
