Types of men's sportswear, what is the difference between them

Men's sportswear Sports

Sport is life. But for any training it is important to have the right sportswear. What requirements should men's sportswear meet? How to choose a suit for a particular sport? Let's try to figure it out.

Varieties

There is a wide range of sportswear available on the market. For certain sports, special clothing is produced that meets all requirements and makes training as comfortable as possible.

There are big brands like Puma or Adidas that have proven the quality of their products. Some of them even exclusively produce elite uniforms for teams for major competitions and the Olympics.

Components of a sports uniform

The sports suit consists of three elements:

  • The top part is a plain or printed T-shirt, tracksuit top, sweatshirt, hoodie, polo, jumpers, turtlenecks, tennis shirts, simple tops, sweatshirts;
  • The lower part is usually sweatpants, shorts, leggings, cargo pants, cycling shorts, overalls;
  • For the cold season, or for hiking in the mountains, there are sports down jackets and loose-fitting jackets. In bad weather, you can just go in windbreakers, parkas or anoraks. For such a top, different options for cut and additional elements are used.

Other characteristics of sportswear

No less important are other characteristics of a man's sports outfit:

  1. Cut - for men's sportswear, a simple cut is typical: straight, semi-fitted, trapezoid. Most often, this is a loose silhouette, but sometimes the suit can be tight-fitting;
  2. Colors - there are no special conditions for choosing a color. Clothes for teenage boys can be printed, older men prefer plain clothes. The paint should not be imprinted on the skin, and sweat marks should not be too noticeable.

Types of men's sportswear:

  1. T-shirts are the main component of sportswear. Depending on the sport, they can have different styles and be made of different materials. As a rule, this is a loose, comfortable item made of natural fabrics. Sometimes a T-shirt can be tight-fitting, for example in cycling. This improves the athlete's aerodynamics;
  2. Polo is clothing for more aristocratic sports, such as tennis, croquet, golf;
  3. Shorts - do not restrict movement, provide comfort during training. Used in many sports as the main element of the uniform: football, basketball, volleyball, running. May vary in length and style, depending on the characteristics of the sport;
  4. A sweatshirt is a garment made of thick, warm fabrics, often with a hood. It is characterized by long sleeves and a loose fit. It may vary in style and color;
  5. An Olympic jacket is an element of outerwear that fastens with a zipper and has a stand-up collar. The sleeves of an Olympic jacket are usually long, and the cuffs have elastic for greater convenience;
  6. Trousers - are provided in suits for winter sports, in others they are rarely used, only for training outside in cold weather. The disadvantage of such clothes is that they restrict movement;
  7. A parka is a long, loose, and warm jacket, very similar to an anorak, but has its own differences. If an anorak is made of thin materials, the purpose of this clothing is only protection from the wind, then a parka is needed to keep warm. The parka usually has a hood;
  8. T-shirts - used in warm weather for active sports: running, basketball, extreme sports. The use of natural materials is welcomed;
  9. Sweatshirts are a mandatory element of any sports suit, but are most often used only in cold weather for outdoor activities.

Which fabric is better?

For men, sportswear is often also casual. Many people like to wear comfortable sweatpants or a sweatshirt in everyday life. But what material for sportswear is ideal for both training and a casual walk?

Natural fabrics (linen, cotton) are the best option, a classic for training in the gym. They are great for sensitive skin, provide air circulation. The only disadvantage is rapid wear, clothes made of natural fabrics lose their shape faster.

The color of the clothes should be stable. Increased sweating during sports training necessarily moistens the fabric, so it is important that the paint from the sweater or pants does not imprint on the skin.

For professional athletes, clothes are made from special fabric. They are an excellent combination of synthetic and natural materials. Much depends directly on the type of sport.

For those who play sports in the city, it is important to have reflectors on their clothes. This is important not so much for comfort as for safety.

Many men also like to wear a tracksuit in everyday life. Fashionable men's clothing in a sports style made of fleece, polyester, and cotton is popular.

For basketball and volleyball, you need to buy a suit with spacious pants and a comfortable wide top. Basketball uniforms are made of lightweight synthetics: they retain their original appearance for a long time and wick moisture away from the body. Basketball equipment also includes special long johns made of elastic fabric that protect muscles from strains.

A separate type of clothing is intended for swimming. Swimming trunks are made of polyester, lycra, microfiber or polyamide (the most "durable" material). There are also one-piece swimming suits for men, but they are mainly used by professional athletes.

Sportswear has many accessories: shoes, headwear, special glasses, bags, wristbands. Many of them are suitable not for the sports themselves, but for creating everyday images in a sports style. The main difference between sports accessories is a minimum of decoration and a specific cut.

Rules for selection depending on the type of sport

To feel as comfortable as possible, the clothes you choose should match the sport. But first, it’s worth knowing the general requirements for any tracksuit:

  1. The material should be as hygroscopic as possible, in other words, it should not retain excess moisture. Natural fabrics are ideal for this criterion;
  2. Wet spots should be invisible. For many people, it is important to look good even during sports, so there should be no visible sweat stains on the clothes;
  3. No large decorative elements. Sportswear should not have large plaques, buckles or ties that cut into the skin. They can interfere with movement or even cause injury to a person;
  4. The right size and style. Men's clothing should not restrict movement. There are many different styles of clothing available in stores, so choosing the right option will not be difficult. Standard suits in stores may not fit due to individual features of the figure (fullness, above average height). Clothes for tall men are more difficult to choose.

Matching the sport is no less important. Completely different suits are selected for swimming and running. For example, a suit for regular training in the gym or fitness center should fit tightly to the body, but not restrict movement. It is advisable to choose clothes made of natural materials.

Particular attention should be paid to the choice of clothing for extreme sports. General requirements: durability, elasticity and high quality of the material. Depending on the type of sport, it can be insulated. For example, for climbing mountains, a suit is needed that retains heat and at the same time promotes air circulation.

For cycling or exercising on a stationary bike, cycling shorts and a T-shirt are suitable. Shorts with a T-shirt are also possible. The same outfit is suitable for yoga, running, aerobics and stretching. For strength training, regular sweatpants and a T-shirt are suitable. The top (sportsman) is not needed if the training takes place indoors.

As for shoes, the main rule is to buy only quality shoes. Sneakers should have a thick back, a breathable structure and quality materials. A non-slip sole is another important criterion.

To enjoy every workout, it is important to choose the right men's sportswear. Choosing something that fits in size, style, and is made of quality material will help a man feel comfortable and reach new heights.
