Denim pants are universal clothing that girls and women of all ages wear with pleasure. Denim products clearly outline the figure and body structure. Natural denim is a dense material that practically does not stretch. This can be a serious obstacle for pregnant women - the clothes cannot be tight. If you do not want to give up your favorite things, you can make jeans for pregnant women with your own hands and wear them for several months while carrying a child. Any existing pants will do for this - a little patience, and the jeans will comfortably "sit" on the figure, without restricting movement and without squeezing the stomach.
What jeans should be like for expectant mothers
A pregnant woman's clothes should be as comfortable as possible, have a certain amount of elasticity so that the fabric can easily stretch, taking into account the belly growing from month to month. If you alter your jeans correctly, you can wear them throughout your entire pregnancy without any problems. Requirements that jeans for pregnant women must meet:
- no waistline, waistband cut from the bikini line;
- the presence of an elastic yoke that stretches well;
- instead of a yoke, side inserts can be used;
- the lower hard edge should not cut into the lower abdomen;
- A woman should feel free and comfortable.
Some women gain weight well during pregnancy, which is expressed in fullness and swelling of the legs and hips. Therefore, when choosing jeans that you plan to alter yourself, it is better to choose a model with not very tight-fitting legs. There are several sewing options - a high-set elastic waistband or a stretch hem, seated under the belly, side panels or a yoke from the bikini line to the top of the belly, overall jeans.
Ways to remake old jeans
It is not very difficult to alter pants yourself - every woman can do it. To create maternity jeans with your own hands, you will need denim pants, thick knitted material (or an old T-shirt), a set of sewing accessories. To quickly perform the stitches, you will need a sewing machine, an overlock, threads to match the color of the denim, a wide elastic band, a needle for handwork, scissors, a seam ripper (stationery knife), a thimble, a measuring tape, chalk (soap), a set of pins. If you do not have a sewing machine, the work can be done manually.
Insert
You can increase the volume of jeans at the waist by adding elastic inserts. They can be sewn in place of the side seams or you can rip out the zipper from the pants and sew on a jersey yoke insert. How to alter jeans for pregnant women with your own hands using an insert:
- measure the pants according to the size of the belly, outline the contours of the elastic yoke with chalk;
- the zipper is ripped out of the pants and the excess fabric is cut off from the front, leaving an allowance of 1 cm, the product is secured with pins;
- a yoke is cut out of knitwear - you can give a larger allowance for seams and finishing, up to 2 cm;
- it is better to use a yoke and a wide belt, therefore, when cutting out, make an indent from the bottom of the insert to the waist line;
- Separately cut out the belt for the wide elastic band, taking into account the allowance of 0.8 cm;
- all the pattern pieces (triangular insert on the stomach and waistband with pulled-in elastic) are tacked to the pants;
- After trying on, you can sew the elastic fabric to the pants; the seams are processed on an overlock.
When sewing in elastic, you need to leave some allowance for your growing belly. To do this, sew the elastic but don't cut it off - when your belly gets bigger, you can rip the seam, widening the belt as needed.
To further increase the volume of the trousers at the waist, you can widen the side seams. To do this, they are ripped open, triangular wedges are cut out of elastic fabric and sewn into the sides. The size of the inserts is 10 cm at the base of the wedge, 12 cm on the sides of the triangles, plus mandatory allowances.
Elastic waistband
The easiest way to make comfortable maternity jeans from regular pants is to use a black bandage. You need to rip out the zipper from the pants and cut off the waistband. Turn the bandage inside out, baste or pin to the pants, and sew on after trying them on. Another elastic material can be used instead of a bandage. To quickly sew maternity jeans with an elastic waistband, you need a piece of well-stretched knitwear. Execution of work:
- the waistband is ripped out of jeans;
- remove the remaining threads;
- the fabric is folded in half;
- perform a side seam;
- attach the belt to the pants;
- try on the product and sew it on.
All seams should be processed in an accessible way - overlock, zigzag, manually. If the volume of the belt and the circumference of the pants do not match, first combine the side seams of the jeans and the pattern. If there is excess fabric left, drape it with small folds during the sewing process. If there is no such problem, stretch the material and immediately sew it on. Using the same principle, you can remake any pants or skirt for a pregnant woman.
The elastic waistband or side panels can be made from fabric that matches the jeans or use a contrasting shade. Sewing in side panels allows you to avoid cutting off the waistband of your jeans.
Overalls made of jeans
Many pregnant women like to wear comfortable items in the form of overalls. To sew such a thing with your own hands, you will need old jeans, sewing accessories, two types of fabric. The dense fabric is needed for the front insert and sewing the straps, and the elastic material will be used for the belt pattern. You need to prepare a wide elastic band and a couple of buttons. How to remake regular jeans into a cute maternity jumpsuit:
- the waistband is ripped off the pants, the side seams are unraveled by approximately 10-12 cm, or deeper;
- from knitwear, cut out two triangular wedges measuring 10x12x12 cm and a wide belt, sew on, and pull in the elastic;
- dense material is used for the front insert in the shape of a trapezoid 35x18 cm and 30 cm on the sides, allowance 2 cm;
- the edges are folded and stitched, the bottom is processed with an overlock or zigzag stitch, and sewn to the jeans;
- for the back of the jumpsuit, make a pattern in the form of a trapezoid of a smaller size - 18 cm at the base, 8 cm at the top, 27 cm on the sides;
- after processing the pattern along the seam allowance line (2 cm), the piece is sewn to the elastic waistband at the back;
- The straps are made from long strips 5-6 cm wide, the length is adjusted according to the woman’s height, and holes are made for buttons.
Finally, the straps are sewn on, the length is checked, buttons are sewn on and, if desired, the jumpsuit is decorated with decorative rhinestones, embroidery, applique patterns to emphasize the individual design of the product. Hand-made items often look more interesting than ready-made store models. In addition, a woman can adjust the pants to fit her figure perfectly, taking into account her growing belly. Maternity clothes should be comfortable, not restricting movement, and easy to wear.
