Preparation of materials and tools
The first step is to calculate the size of the blanket. If the product is being sewn for a child, a size of 1x1.5 meters is sufficient. If the model is intended for an adult, it is better to make the blanket larger. Thus, a standard blanket for 1 person will have dimensions of 2x1.5 meters, and the option for 2 people - 2x2 meters. Having decided on the dimensions, you should select the necessary tools and materials.
To sew a bedspread from old jeans, you should prepare the following items:
- sharp tailor's scissors;
- chalk, a piece of flat soap or a fabric pen;
- jeans of various colors and textures;
- colored thick fabric for decoration, as well as for the back of the bedspread;
- if you want to make the bedspread insulated, you need to prepare thin synthetic padding;
- strong threads, machine needles.
You can use any fabric for the lining - the main thing is that the density is high. Calico or satin can be used as patchwork scraps. It is good if you have old clothes left in the house from which you can cut scraps.

Before you start sewing a bedspread from old jeans with your own hands, it is recommended to carefully prepare the fabrics. To do this, all denim products are washed in a washing machine with the addition of powder, dried. Additional materials and fabrics also need to be washed - this can be done by hand. - denim square, size 12x12 cm – 120 pieces;
- fabric strips 2.5x12 cm – 120 pieces;
- fabric strips 2.5x14.5 cm – 120 pieces;
- fabric strips 2x14.5 cm – 120 pieces;
- fabric strips 2x16.5 cm – 120 pieces;
- large lining fabric measuring 180x200 cm with seam allowances.
An old sheet can be used as a lining – the main thing is that it is whole and not worn out. This master class uses denim squares and fabric strips. The latter will be sewn on the corners of the squares. Other master classes suggest sewing round or square patches directly onto the denim.
The finished product is soft, it does not stick out on the bed if you cover it with it. If you use a thick, rough fabric for the lining, the bedspread will be hard and will only be suitable for covering the lower part of the sofa: where a person sits.
Sewing
Before you start making a patchwork blanket from old jeans, it is recommended to carefully arrange the prepared materials in piles. There should be a pile of denim squares on the table, as well as other piles of fabric, sorted by size. Thanks to this order, there will be no difficulties in the manufacturing process.

Before assembling, it is necessary to lay out all the parts on the floor to clearly see the most suitable combination of shades. When the order is chosen, all the flaps are connected into a single product: first, they need to be pinned together so as not to mix up the sequence. Then the finished canvas needs to be sewn onto the lining. Do not forget about processing the edges - you can use a material of a different color for it.
Care instructions
In order for the bedspread to serve for a long time, it is recommended to properly care for the product. If it serves as a blanket on the sofa, it is necessary to wash the product once a month, and also clean it as it gets dirty.A denim bedspread is a great replacement for a traditional blanket, especially if you have pets in the house. Basic rules of care:
- minor stains can be removed from the fabric with a damp sponge;
- Once a month or as it gets dirty, wash the item in the machine with the addition of powder: the washing mode is set according to the density of the fabric;
- You can wash the bedspread by hand: in water at room temperature and with a mild detergent;
- there is no need to pre-soak the blanket;
- You can dry the bedspread in the usual way in a dryer or on the balcony.
