Methods for removing greasy stains from jackets, useful tips

Removing stains

Outerwear should be washed as rarely as possible, but no matter how carefully it is worn, it is impossible to avoid contamination. Oily stains appear especially often. They are not removed with regular washing, and dry cleaning is expensive. For this reason, every housewife needs to know how to effectively remove a greasy stain from a jacket. There are many effective home and industrial products that will help to cope with the problem. Cleaning should be carried out according to all the rules and recommendations so that the item does not deteriorate even more as a result.

Stain removal algorithm

If your jacket is stained with grease, you don’t necessarily have to take it to the dry cleaners – you can remove the stain at home. It’s easier to do this while it’s fresh. Before you remove a grease stain from your jacket, it’s recommended to study the label. This will help you understand what fabric it’s made of and choose a safe, suitable cleaner. After that, do the following:

  1. Blot the grease with napkins, without rubbing it into the material. The actions are carried out in the direction from the edges to the middle, so as not to smear the stain.
  2. If the jacket is dusty, it is cleaned of dust.
  3. Sprinkle a layer of starch or talc - they will absorb the fat. Soda or fine salt have the same effect.
  4. After 10-15 minutes, remove the powder with a soft brush. If necessary, add a little more product.
  5. Next, cut the washed potato and wipe the oil stain with the cut side.
  6. The jacket is sent to the machine. If this mode is unacceptable for clothes, you can wash out a greasy stain on the jacket by hand, preferably using laundry soap.

Before putting the jacket in the machine, remove all unnecessary items from the pockets, remove any stains, as they will be much more difficult to remove after washing.

  • the product should be applied only to the stain itself;
  • This is done on a dry cloth - after soaking, oil stains may spread;
  • To apply the product, use a cotton pad; do not use a brush;
  • you need to rub towards the middle;
  • If the product is aggressive, protect your hands with gloves and your respiratory system with a mask.

After removing the grease stain, you need to wash the problem area with water. First, traces of chemicals are removed from the fabric, and then the item is washed as usual. There are several more rules on how to remove greasy stains from a jacket. They must also be followed:

  • Products with synthetic padding cannot be machine washed;

The nuances of stain removal for different types of fabrics

Before you wash greasy stains from a jacket, you need to find out what type of fabric a particular cleaning agent is suitable for. Outerwear can be made of natural or synthetic material, bologna, leather or with a special water-repellent impregnation. Each fabric will require a specific agent.

Oil stains on a textile jacket can be easily removed with ammonia. To do this, take one teaspoon of alcohol and mix it with 200 ml of water, then add a small amount of soda to the solution. Then treat the contaminated area with the resulting mixture and, after waiting for it to dry, clean it with a brush. You can drop a few drops of Fairy and then wash the area.

If the jacket is made of delicate fabric, it cannot be cleaned with aggressive products. In this case, you can remove the stain with chalk or tooth powder. Sprinkle them on the dirty area, rub a little with a brush and cover with a sheet of paper. Put something heavy on top, for example, an iron. After 24 hours, remove the remaining powder with a soft brush.

Not everyone knows how to remove greasy stains from a nylon jacket. The best solution to the problem is to use a soap solution. This liquid is also safe for other types of outerwear. The solution is made from washing powder or shavings from laundry soap. You need to apply the foam to the stain, then wash it with water. Then wet a cotton pad with vinegar and wipe the greasy spot, rinse and dry the jacket.

It is better to remove a stain from a leather jacket with alcohol or lemon juice. A mixture of a spoon of starch and 4 spoons of gasoline also helps. You need to apply this gruel to the stain without rubbing, and after it dries, rub it with a brush.

Oil stains are the most difficult to remove from a suede jacket. Not all products can be used for this material. It is best to use an eraser: it helps to easily rub off fresh stains. Dirt can be removed with starch or talc. However, traces of the cleaning agent will be difficult to remove later if the outerwear is made of dark material. The simplest and most effective way is to use a steam cleaner. From it, a stream of steam is directed at the problem area from a distance of 20-30 cm.

How to remove greasiness

The absence of greasy stains does not relieve you from the need to clean your outerwear from dirt: every year you have to think about how to get rid of greasiness. When wearing a jacket for a long time, the areas that come into contact with the body absorb skin fat and begin to shine. Most often, this happens on the collar, cuffs and pockets. Even if the item is machine washable, it is recommended to pre-wash the greasy areas. Proven cleaning compounds:

  • mix 500 ml of water, a tablespoon of vinegar and a little salt;
  • mix salt and soda in equal quantities, add a little water to make a paste;
  • Take 100 ml of water, a teaspoon of ammonia and a little Fairy, beat into a foam.

The simplest but most effective way is to treat the greasy areas with laundry soap. Without rinsing, hang the jacket on a hanger in the bathroom. Wash it after 24 hours. Grease can be removed from light-colored items with crushed chalk. Rub it into the fabric and then remove with a brush.

If you need to clean the item quickly or there are only a few greasy spots, there is another effective method:

  • wipe the contaminated areas with alcohol - regular or ammonia;
  • sprinkle with fine salt;
  • rub with a soft brush or sponge.

Removing greasy stains and cleaning greasy areas on outerwear is not at all difficult. There are many home remedies and commercial stain removers available that, if used correctly, will leave no marks on your jacket and will not damage the fabric.
