Different clothes require a certain model of underwear. In some cases, the color scheme and the quality of the materials used will be important. The types of bras suitable for everyday life are called basic, and most women wear them. In addition to classic models, there are options designed for sports, evening outings, and other special occasions. Any underwear should be selected in accordance with the shape and size of the chest: certain models will not suit everyone.
Classification
Bras differ in their design type, clasp structure and purpose. When choosing, you can't ignore the physical features of the girl. After all, the model of underwear determines not only how the clothes will fit, but also the comfort of the woman.

According to the purpose of use, the following models of bras are distinguished:
- Everyday bra. A classic bra is suitable for everyday wear - this is underwear with a closed cup without bones and foam. Its main advantage is its versatility: this model will suit all breast shapes and sizes. Another option for every day is a bra with bones. Thanks to the rigid arch sewn into the lower part of the cup, such a bra holds the breasts perfectly.
- Sports underwear. Designed for the gym. This model has wide straps, no formed cups or bones. This bra tightens the chest, so it is recommended to wear it only during training.
- For pregnant women. The bra is designed taking into account the physiological changes that a woman's body undergoes during pregnancy. Thanks to its special shape, the bra prevents breast deformation without squeezing it. As the mammary glands grow, the bra stretches, adjusting to the changes in the body.
- For nursing mothers. This type of underwear is made of natural fabric and is also equipped with special removable inserts that absorb milk. The bra can be easily unfastened with one hand, which allows you to feed your baby quickly and comfortably.
- Under revealing clothes. Under dresses or blouses with a large neckline on the back or with transparent inserts, a strapless bra is worn - a bandeau. Another option is silicone pads that are glued to the chest, creating a beautiful shape and not spoiling the appearance with straps and a clasp that are visible under clothes. Such models have virtually no supporting effect, so they are not suitable for women with a cup size larger than C.
- Erotic lingerie. It has more of an aesthetic than a practical function. These are translucent lace bras without underwire on thin straps.
By design
According to this feature, several dozen types of bras are distinguished. All types of bras differ:
- the presence or absence of straps;
- width of straps;
- shape and rigidity of the cups;
- the presence or absence of bones;
- width of the base (the bottom of the bra).
A strapless bra (bandeau) is not as comfortable as a version with straps, but it can be worn under an off-the-shoulder dress. This model is indispensable for evening outings. There are convertible bras that allow you to unfasten the straps, place them differently: for example, leave only one or cross both on the back. Models with narrow straps are suitable for teenage girls or adult women with a small breast size. Those with C, D cups and higher should give preference to underwear with wider straps - they provide better support without cutting into the shoulders. When choosing, pay attention to the base of the bra. If it is narrow, the straps are only slightly spread from the center of the cups, if on the contrary, the straps are attached closer to the side seam.
Among the types of bra cups, there are open and closed options. Both the first and second models are common. An open bra, the cups of which do not hide the upper part of the chest (balconette, Angelica, Corbeil), can be worn under a dress or blouse with a deep neckline. A closed bra is suitable for everyday wear under clothes with a small neckline. Bra cups can be soft or harder. The first are made of elastic material that supports, but does not squeeze the chest. A hard cup gives shape and additional volume.
Most modern lingerie models are equipped with bones for additional support. Bras without these elements are more comfortable, they are recommended for teenage girls, as well as women during pregnancy and breastfeeding as an alternative to special models. The wider the base of the bra, the better the lingerie supports the breasts. Bras with a wide back bar are suitable for owners of size C and above.
Seamless bras are those that have no underwire or seams on the cups. Thanks to the cut, they do not show under clothes, and will be an ideal solution for a see-through outfit. A comfortable bra gently supports breasts of any size and shape. In addition to the usual type, it can be a bustier or a top.
By type and location of the clasp
Most bras have a back closure. The hooks allow you to adjust the tightness of the body under the chest. On average, there are 4 closure positions.
The base of the bra should not squeeze the chest, making it difficult to breathe. If the bra is fastened too tightly, the clasp will move upward while you wear it, leaving red streaks on your skin.
The front-fastening bra model is less popular, but also in demand. It will suit a closed, but thin or tight dress or blouse. In this case, a bra with a non-standard fastener will not create an unsightly relief on the back. As everyday underwear, this model will be convenient for pregnant and nursing women, as well as women with joint problems, excess weight, and coordination disorders. The downside of a front-fastening bra is the inability to adjust the volume under the chest.
In addition to the usual hooks, the fastener can be a button with a loop, a zipper, Velcro, buttons, two parts, one of which fits into the other and snaps.
Popular models
Clothing, taste preferences, breast shape and volume dictate the choice of bra. It is important that it is carefully selected according to size. If the bra is too small, the item will squeeze the skin and disrupt blood circulation, if too large, it will not perform a supporting function.
Classic
A classic bra is a model with fully closed soft cups, no underwire or push-up effect. It is a universal everyday option for women with any breast shape and size. Due to the features of the cups, it is not suitable for clothes with a deep neckline. You can safely wear this bra model under other clothes.
Push-up
A bra with this effect cannot be called a separate model in itself: push-up can be built into almost any bra, except for a classic one, as well as models for pregnant and nursing women. Foam inserts are sewn into the lower part of the cups, lifting the chest, creating additional volume and a beautiful neckline. Lingerie with this effect is chosen by women who want to visually enlarge their chest and present it favorably in a revealing outfit. It is not intended for everyday wear, as it squeezes the body. Push-up bras are available in sizes up to C, but it is rare to find such underwear with a larger cup.
Angelica
Angelica is a bra with open rigid cups and removable straps, which makes it an ideal underwear option for an evening dress with an open back or shoulders. Thanks to its convenient design, the model can be worn in everyday life. If desired, the standard straps can be easily replaced with wider or transparent silicone ones. This bra model is equipped with bones for additional support and shaping, making it suitable for women with both small and large breast sizes.
Balcony
Another version of a bra with an open cup. Like the previous model, it is equally suitable for a social event, as well as for every day. The difference between this bra and Angelica is that the cups of the balconette bra are more open. The underwear provides support due to the design: the weight of the breasts is transferred from the straps to the base of the bra. Thanks to this, additional volume is created even without foam inserts.
Corbeil
This model of underwear is similar to Angelica and Balconette, has the same advantages. It differs from other open bras in the shape of the cups. If Angelica or Balconette have a straight upper line, then the Corbeil model has a diagonal one. Due to this, a medium-sized bust is better supported on the sides in such underwear. Owners of modest or curvy shapes should refuse this option, the bra will not hold large breasts, and will look empty on small ones. Since the straps are widely spaced in this model, it can be worn under clothes with a neckline from the very shoulders.
Contour
Another name for this type is T-Shirt Bra, which reflects its purpose: a contour bra is worn under a light blouse, shirt or T-shirt. This is a bra with smooth cups without lace inserts or other decorative elements. The contour bra does not show through under thin, light-colored clothing.Most often, this model can be found in basic colors: black and beige. Contour bras can also be white or colored. The main principle is a minimalist design combined with a monochromatic color scheme.
You shouldn't choose a bra of the same color for a white shirt - the underwear will show through, even if the blouse is opaque. In this case, it's better to choose a beige model.
Bralette
Bralette is a bra that combines comfort and attractive appearance. This model is more like a top than a bra in the usual sense. It does not have molded cups, lining or bones. Often there is no clasp - thanks to the elastic material, the bra can be put on over the head without fear of it stretching. Bralette bras can be worn not only as underwear, but also as an independent element of clothing over a white T-shirt or on the naked body. The only downside of this bra is that it is only suitable for women with a cup size up to C, since due to its design, it almost does not support the chest.
Grace and semi-grace
These styles of underwear are mainly chosen by those with curvy figures. Grace and semi-grace are a corset that lifts the chest and creates a graceful waist. These models can be worn under tight clothing - all the unevenness and imperfections of the figure will be hidden.
It is not recommended to wear corrective underwear for more than 10-12 hours a day. Despite the fact that modern graces are made of elastic breathable materials, the corset disrupts blood circulation in the body, makes breathing difficult, and negatively affects the functioning of internal organs. This is an option for a festive event.
Plange
Distinctive features of this model: deep neckline in front, triangular cups. The cleavage area in such underwear is maximally open. The model is specially designed so that women can wear blouses, dresses, T-shirts with a very deep neckline. Plunge is recommended only for ladies with large breasts.
Conical
This type of underwear was popular in the middle of the last century. As the name suggests, the cups of the bra are shaped like cones. Nowadays, such models are impossible to see in the lingerie departments. The conical bra is worn in combination with other attributes of the past years to recreate the retro look of the last century.
Brassier
The bra style is another type of bra with widely spaced straps and open cups that barely cover the nipples. For this reason, the bra will not suit women with a large breast size. Those who wear an AA or A bra should also opt for an Angelica or a balconette: in this case, the bra will not fit tightly to the chest, which is not only unaesthetic, but also uncomfortable. Worn under a dress with a deep neckline, it will visually make the chest lush and seductive.
Top, bandeau
Bandeau is a bra without straps. This model can be made in two versions: as a wide strip of fabric without clearly defined cups, and as a regular bra, but without straps. The first type of bandeau can be worn not only as underwear, but also as a regular top in combination with shorts or high-waisted jeans. This bra is suitable for women whose cup size is AA, A, B or C. On larger breasts, the bandeau will not stay on, constantly sliding down.
Transformer
A convertible bra is an ideal option for those who often wear revealing clothing. Its features: unusual cup shape and detachable straps. The straps of the convertible bra can be removed completely, leave only one (option for a one-shoulder dress), cross them on the back or fasten in the front. Such models are mainly made in basic colors with smooth cups, but there are bright options, trimmed with lace and other decorative elements.
Minimizer
The minimizer bra is the complete opposite of the push-up effect. This bra is used by many women with large breasts (cup size E and above) with an imperfect shape. The minimizer gently tightens the breasts, removing excess pressure from the spine and shoulders, without squeezing blood vessels, and without interfering with breathing. This bra has wide straps and a back bar, has a special cut that takes into account the features of a large bust.
Materials and design
Underwear is mainly made of natural materials, most often cotton. This fabric does not cause skin irritation, allowing the body to breathe, and also absorbs sweat. An admixture of synthetic materials is acceptable, but the inside of the bra cup - where the bra touches the chest - should be made only of natural materials.
Some bras are minimalist in design and monochromatic in color – these are usually basic options. Many models are decorated with lace, embroidery, floral or geometric patterns. The main thing is not to wear a bra with relief under tight clothes, otherwise it will be noticeable, which will make your look vulgar.
Every woman is recommended to buy at least two types of bras - black and beige. White is not basic, as it does not go with either light or dark clothes - in both cases, such a bra will be see-through.
Today, the choice of underwear is extremely diverse: it is not difficult to choose a bra for any outfit, be it an open evening dress or a casual look for work. For this, any girl's wardrobe should have different models and colors. You just need to take into account the features of your figure and personal preferences.
