Knitting a crochet skirt for a girl, simple patterns with descriptions

Homemade for kids

Clothes for young fashionistas are always a space for creativity and fresh ideas. Knitted new clothes do not require a lot of yarn, do not take much time and effort. A warm or openwork crochet skirt for a girl will be a wonderful gift for any season. It is suitable for everyday wear or a festive outfit.

Materials and tools

The choice of yarn for a crocheted children's skirt depends on the season and model. Light summer items require thinner threads. It is better to take yarn made of natural fibers, as it allows the skin to breathe and holds its shape well. Openwork skirts knitted from synthetic threads will lose their elegant appearance after several washes, and the edges of the hem will sag and stretch. To prevent this from happening, the percentage of artificial fibers in the yarn should be insignificant.

The following types of yarn are well suited for summer products:

  • PNK Kirov "Lotus" - mercerized double twisted cotton;
  • Pekhorka "Azhurnaya" - cotton made using Italian technology;
  • Pekhorka "Pearl" - cotton with viscose, for skirts with soft drapery;
  • Alize "Bella Batik" - sectionally dyed cotton thread;
  • Pekhorka "Linen" - flax with the addition of cotton fiber.

A warm skirt for a girl can be knitted from wool or semi-wool threads. Merino yarn is a good choice - pure or with cotton, viscose, silk, acrylic. For a straight-cut model, you can take wool with the addition of elastane so that the item does not stretch when worn. Downy threads are not suitable for such a product - they will roll up, forming pellets.

Types of yarn for winter and demi-season skirts for girls:

  • Troitskaya "Scottish tweed" - wool, melange;
  • Pekhorka "Children's whim" - semi-woolen with shine;
  • Nako "Boho" - wool with a small addition of polyamide;
  • Color City "Yarn Hit" is a mixture of sheep and camel wool.

If the children's skirt will be part of a festive outfit, then you can use decorated yarn for it, including, for example, shiny thread, sequins, beads.

The color of the yarn is chosen depending on the knitting technique. A complex openwork pattern will be lost on a sectionally dyed fabric; single-color threads will do for it. And on the contrary, simple patterns will look more interesting with color transitions.

When choosing the thickness of the threads, you should remember that the crocheted thing has a fairly high density, so it should not be made from thick yarn. It is better to focus on the weight of the threads 350-500 m / 100 g.

The thickness of the crochet hook is usually indicated on the yarn packaging. If this information is missing, you can select the tool based on the thickness of the thread. To do this, you need to insert it into the hook's groove, which should be filled.

The density of the knitting depends on the hook number. The thicker its diameter, the looser the fabric will be. The size of the product also depends on the density. A skirt knitted with a hook of a larger diameter will be wider and longer than the same model made with a thin hook.

Measurements and pattern

Patterns of children's skirts are constructed according to measurements taken from the child. Usually, this is the hip circumference (HC) and the length of the product (LP). The circumference is measured with a tape measure, tightly encircling the hips, but not too tight. If the child's waist is larger than the hips, you need to focus on it. The length of the product is the distance from the waist to the edge of the hem of the skirt. It is measured perpendicular to the floor.

To create a pattern, you need to know the style of the future item. The table describes the most popular models.

Model name

Pattern shape

Straight or pencil skirt A rectangle whose width is DI and whose length is OB
Trapezoid Wedge expanding downwards
Tiered with frills The base is a rectangle like a pencil skirt, to which the frills are attached.
Sun skirt A circle with a hole in the middle. The inner circumference is equal to OB
Half Sun Semicircle with a notch. The length of the notch is equal to OB

When choosing a model and length, you need to consider the child's age and body proportions. An openwork crochet skirt for a girl may additionally require a lining.

Basic knitting techniques

The variety of knitting techniques allows you to create items for any season, taking into account the style of the skirt and the age of the child. Most often, the following are used for the fabric of the skirt:

  1. Dense crochet. Suitable for warm demi-season and winter clothes, as well as for the top of openwork skirts. It is made with double and single crochet stitches.
  2. Dense fantasy pattern. Has the same purpose, but in addition to columns, it includes other types of loops.
  3. Zigzag. A type of tight knitting that produces a zigzag pattern and jagged edge on the fabric.
  4. Openwork patterns. They have a distinct pattern with many holes. In this way, you can knit a light summer product from thin threads.
  5. Knitting with motifs. The fabric is made up of separately knitted fragments. The motifs are crocheted separately, their patterns are quite simple and suitable for beginner knitters.

Depending on the model, the skirt fabric may widen towards the bottom. The chosen knitting technique should take this into account. As a rule, the pattern of a specific model provides for adding or decreasing loops in the pattern, due to which the item takes the desired shape.

Step-by-step master class on creating popular models

The master classes below with a detailed description of the process will help you create original children's skirts of different styles.

Any crochet skirt can be lengthened over time by adding a hem or ruffles to the bottom, so it's best to save any leftover yarn and use it as needed.

Multi-tiered with ruffles for schoolgirl

The frilled skirt is knitted in two stages: first, a base mesh is made, on which the openwork tiers of frills are then knitted. The straight tiered model is suitable for school-age girls. The length and number of tiers are determined individually.

To work you will need:

  • 2 skeins of thin viscose or cotton yarn with a density of 270 m/90 g;
  • hook No. 3;
  • belt tape;
  • lining fabric.

The base is knitted in the form of a tube, using the fillet mesh technique:

  1. To start knitting, cast on enough air loops (AL) so that the chain wraps around the hips. Close it into a ring.
  2. Make a lift of 4 VP, then knit 2 VP and knit a column with 2 yarns (St2N) in the third VP chain from the hook. Again 2 VP and again St2N in the 3rd loop from the hook. Continue this way to the end of the row.
  3. All subsequent rows are knitted in the same way, placing the posts above the posts.
  4. When the base reaches the desired length, knit the belt. To do this, knit 3 rows with single crochet stitches, then one row - 2 St2N, 2 VP, repeat to the end. The final row - single crochet stitches.

Ruffles are knitted starting from the edge of the hem and then through every 3 rows of the mesh until they reach the waist.

Ruffle pattern:

  1. Knit 2 sts into each arch of the mesh.
  2. Make single crochet stitches between two dc of the previous row. Between the stitches are arches of 3 VP.
  3. Knit arches of 3 VP into the arches of the previous row. In every fourth, knit 2 StN, between which - an arch of 3 VP.
  4. In the arches between the sts of the previous row, fans of 6 sts are knitted. Between them are 3 arches of 3 VP.
  5. Above each StN in the fan, StN is knitted, between them 1 VP. Between the fans - 2 arches of 3 VP.
  6. Above StN, knit St2N, between the columns of the arch of 3 VP. Between the fans - 1 VP.
  7. Ruffle binding. In each arch 2 St are knitted, a picot of 3 VP, 2 St. Between the fans - 1 St.

When knitting the tiers, you need to make sure that the fans are placed strictly one above the other. A thin ribbon should be pulled through the holes in the belt to tighten the skirt at the waist. Instead, you can use a belt that needs to be crocheted from the same threads as the main product. The lining is either sewn on from the wrong side, or sits on an elastic band and is put on separately. The skirt for the girl is ready.

Summer openwork for baby

A delicate summer skirt for a girl aged 3-4 is knitted from natural cotton yarn. It consists of a straight openwork fabric, for which you will need a hook No. 2.

Knitting pattern:

  1. Cast on a chain of VP equal to the hip circumference plus 2-3 cm. The number of loops should be a multiple of 11.
  2. 4 VP, then knit the pattern: lush column (LP) of 3 St2N in the 3rd loop from the hook, 3 VP, half-column in the next loop, 3 VP, LP, 2 VP, half-column in the 3rd loop from the hook, 3 VP, half-column in the 3rd loop from the hook, VP. Repeat the pattern to the end of the row.
  3. Make 4 VP, then the pattern: 1 VP, in the arches of 3 VP knit 2 StN, between which 1 VP, then 1 VP, in the arch knit St2N, 3 VP, St2N, then 1 VP and repeat the pattern to the end of the row.
  4. Make 3 VP, PSt under 1 VP, 3 VP, half-column under 1 VP, 2 VP, then knit 3 half-columns in an arch of 3 VP, make 3 VP between them. Knit 2 VP and repeat the pattern to the end of the row.
  5. Knit 6 VP, 2 St2N in the arch, 3 VP between them, then 1 VP, 2 StN with 1 VP between them under each VP, 1 VP.
  6. Next, repeat the pattern from the 1st row to the desired length.

The resulting fabric is sewn into a "tube" and sewn to a ready-made knitted elastic band. The lining fabric is sewn to the same elastic band from the inside.

How to decorate

All kinds of decorative elements can be used to decorate a children's skirt:

  • crocheted volumetric or flat flowers;
  • applications;
  • bows;
  • buttons;
  • beads and seed beads;
  • tassels and pompoms on the belt:
  • fringe at the hem;
  • edging with contrasting thread.

The trim should match the style of the skirt and not overload it with details. For items knitted from yarn with lurex, sequins or beads, additional decorations should be minimal. Appliques and flowers will look good on a uniform fabric without a pattern.

To create an ensemble, a girl's skirt can be complemented with a crocheted handbag, mittens, and a headband in the same style.
