Variety of half-sun skirts, nuances of sewing models

Types

A skirt is one of the most popular items of clothing in a woman's wardrobe. It differs in style, material, sewing features, and helps create unique looks. An option such as a half-sun skirt is suitable for both everyday outings and festive events. Now this model is found in the collections of almost all fashion designers.

Varieties

Half-sun skirts have a loose cut, so they suit women with any figure, height, and age. Such models are a real salvation for girls with curvy shapes. A half-sun skirt can be of several varieties - their features should definitely be taken into account when choosing.

Type Characteristic
Flared The style assumes the presence of an expansion at the bottom. A wide edge is not always used for this – a similar effect can be achieved by the presence of a smell or the absence of a seam.
With folds They can be different: one-sided, counter (when the folds are directed towards each other), bow-shaped. Such options are suitable for any figure.
School The advantage of the product is its convenience. To choose a model for girls, it is better to give preference to fabrics that do not wrinkle, have simple one-sided folds. The length of the product can reach the knee or be 5-8 cm higher. For teenage schoolgirls, you can choose a half-sun skirt with an elastic band. It is better to buy a model made of a material that holds its shape well.
Wrap-around model It can be used for everyday wear or for a festive event. This model does not involve sewing the fabric. The fabrics are connected using buttons, fasteners or ties.
High waisted The wide belt makes the silhouette more feminine.
Half-sun skirt with two seams They are usually located on the sides. Such a product is easy to make yourself. It requires a small amount of fabric.
Without a belt Such models can often be found in the wardrobe of women with curvy shapes. They are fastened with buttons or have an elastic band. This style is most often used for summer items.
Model with belt Skirts of this type are popular among young fashionistas who want to emphasize their figure. The belt can be elastic, made of the same fabric as the product itself.
For pregnant women At an early stage, models with a sewn-in elastic band are more often used. A wrap-around skirt with ties looks great on the expectant mother. There are also products with an elastic wide belt that covers the belly completely.
Half-sun skirt with pockets This type of clothing is practical, fashionable and stylish. Pockets are usually made in the side seams. This style is suitable for classic models.
With a train This is a good alternative to classic models. Flowing fabrics are used for production.

The presented product is not too lush, so it allows you to both hide massive hips and add extra volume to narrow ones.

Length options

Regardless of the length of the product, such a skirt is suitable for girls and women of different heights. When choosing, it is important to take into account the features of your figure. There are the following varieties depending on the length:

  1. Short skirt. It looks good on tall girls with slender legs. This model will also suit short fashionistas, but it should be combined with heels to lengthen the silhouette.
  2. Midi. This is a universal option that suits everyone. Here the product reaches the knee. It is necessary to choose shoes with high heels or wedges for it.
  3. Long model. To choose a half-sun skirt to the floor, you need to consider the type of figure. If a girl has curvy shapes, then it is better for her to give preference to a product with an elastic band made of thick material. Options with pleating will suit slender women.

For very young and thin girls, there are very short models. The choice of length depends on the purpose of using such clothes. Each of them can be used for everyday wear. Long models are considered more festive.

Differences from the Sun model

In appearance, the "half-sun" model is less lush and voluminous. It is used more for everyday wear, as it fits better into the casual style. Another difference of this model is the insignificant consumption of fabric for the skirt. In this case, not a whole circle of material is needed, but only half of it. It also has seams - 1 or 2. In a sun skirt, they may not be there - it is made from a single piece of fabric.

The "half-sun" is different in that it is better to sew it from fabrics that hold their shape well. In this case, you can create different types of folds, increase the volume. At the same time, light and flowing materials are suitable for the "sun". The first option often has a pocket. This model does not completely hide the outline of the hips, which makes the figure mysterious and more seductive. This option is popular among ladies of different body types.

Materials

To sew a half-sun skirt for a girl, young woman or woman, you need a fabric that is highly flexible and holds its shape. Lighter and thinner materials are suitable for summer options. The most commonly used for sewing these items are:

  1. Tweed. This is a woolen material with a relief surface. It is practical, warm, and allows you to achieve clear folds on the skirt. Due to its texture, the material adds extra volume, which is especially important for women with very narrow hips. Full ladies should avoid this fabric.
  2. Tulle. A light, smooth material, which is often used to sew festive items. The volume of the skirt depends on its rigidity. It can be combined with different blouses and tops. Disadvantages of tulle: it is highly electrified, can deform when located near heating devices.
  3. Denim. This option is used for everyday wear. The fabric is thin, natural, so it will not cause discomfort even in the summer heat. As for the folds, they are made in the form of natural gathers. Denim fades over time, can settle after washing.
  4. Leather. The material is suitable for those fashionistas who are not afraid to experiment. It is better to use medium or long models. Due to the natural shine of the leather, the folds create beautiful iridescence, so the image will be bright, even if the top is dark. The disadvantage of the material is its high cost.
  5. Knitwear. To sew such a skirt, you need a fabric of dense texture. This material usually does not have artificial folds. Relative disadvantage - it looks simple.
  6. Chiffon. Used for sewing summer floor-length garments. This material is breathable and hides some silhouette flaws. It is somewhat capricious in care, so it must be handled with care.
  7. Chintz. A natural lightweight fabric used for sewing summer skirts. It is pleasant to the touch, and can be plain or printed. This material is breathable, but quickly wrinkles, shrinks when washed, and is damaged when exposed to high temperatures.
  8. Suede. This skirt is soft, velvety, silky. Its texture is porous. It is better to use the artificial version, as it practically does not wrinkle and holds its shape well. Any shade can be chosen for sewing.

It is better not to use natural flax for sewing, as it quickly wrinkles and shrinks when washed. Cotton has the same disadvantages, which, in addition, wears out quickly.

Stages of self-sewing

To make a piece of clothing with your own hands, beginner craftswomen will need step-by-step instructions. It is better to give preference to such an option as a half-sun skirt with one seam. First, you need to model: determine the length, style, the presence of additional decorative elements. Now you need to make a pattern, take basic measurements. The next step is to calculate the required amount of material. Then the pattern needs to be transferred to the fabric, which can be cut out immediately.

All the details need to be prepared for subsequent sewing: ironed and overcast. After that, you can start assembling the product.

Necessary measurements

Sewing such clothes does not require many years of experience. To create a pattern, you only need to take 2 measurements: waist circumference and length of the garment. This can be done using a measuring tape. To sew a stylish half-sun skirt with one seam, it does not matter whether you take measurements during the day or in the evening.

Calculation of the amount of fabric

To sew a skirt, you need measurements and a cut with a fabric width of 150 cm. First, you need to determine the radius of the notch for the waist and the radius along the line. The first parameter is calculated using the following formula: R1 = OT (waist circumference): 3.14, and the second is: R2 = R1 + skirt length.

To know how much fabric is needed for a half-sun skirt if there is one seam along the back or front of the fabric, use the following formula: R2 multiplied by 2. In order to use less material, it is better to cut the skirt from 2 pieces. The following formula will help you calculate the required amount of fabric: a2 + b2 = c2. The values are as follows: a is the width of the fabric, b is the length (needs to be calculated), c is the diagonal cut size.

When calculating the fabric for a half-sun skirt, the length of the consumption is calculated as follows: b2 = c2 – a2. If the model is seamless and its height from the waist is more than 62 cm, then 2 lengths of material will be needed. Here you also need to add 25 cm and 4 cm for allowances. When making a floor-length product with 2 seams, 3-4 lengths of fabric will be needed. Here, too, we must not forget about allowances.

Materials and tools

Once you have chosen the fabric for the skirt, you need to assemble the working tool. In order to make a wardrobe item, you need measuring devices and other useful little things:

  • needles, pins, scissors;
  • measuring tape;
  • chalk for marking;
  • interlining;
  • ruler;
  • threads of the same color as the selected material.

Depending on the style of the product, buttons, fasteners, and decorative elements may be required. If a skirt is made with a zipper, it can be hidden or obvious. If it is necessary to use elastic, its density, width, and color must be taken into account.

Construction of the pattern

The pattern of the half-sun skirt is drawn on tracing paper. It needs to be folded in half. First, the radius of the circle along the waist line is calculated. The length of the circle can be found using the formula R = OT / 6.28. On the paper in the corner, you need to put a point A. From it to the right and down, segments are laid off, the length of which is equal to the obtained radius. Next, take a compass, with which a dotted line of the circle with the same radius is applied to the paper.

When determining the waist circumference, an allowance of 2.5 cm is added for fit.

After this, the length of the product is drawn. Here, segments A1H1 and A2H2 are set aside. They are marked on the sides of the right angle. The radius of this circle is equal to the sum of segments AA1 and A1H1. In this way, you can get half of the pattern of a half-sun skirt. The design also provides for the application of allowances for the upper and lower edges.

To check the accuracy of the drawing, the pattern of the half-sun skirt should be applied to the figure, and any shortcomings should be corrected. If the product is to be sewn on the belt, it should also be drawn on paper first. The length of the item is equal to OT, the width is 2 times more than required. Allowances for seams are taken into account - 1.5 cm each.

Now the pieces need to be cut out and laid out on the fabric. To save material, it is better to cut out half-sun skirts in two pieces. The pieces are laid out diagonally, from the corners of the fabric. The central part of the element should lie at an angle of 45 degrees.

Connecting parts and decorating

All parts of the product must be carefully cut out along the marked lines. The bottom and side parts should be overcast. Step-by-step instructions for making:

  1. Connecting the belt and lining. Next, the edges need to be sewn together and turned right side out.
  2. Sewing on a zipper if needed.
  3. Sewing the belt into the main garment. It should be pinned beforehand. Since the belt should be sewn onto the half-sun skirt carefully, it is better to iron the seam allowances beforehand.
  4. Edge processing.

At this stage, decorative elements are fixed. You can sew on sequins, beads, and braid. You can attach parts not only with threads, but also with special glue.

Sewing nuances depending on the model

Since the product parts are cut at an angle of 45 degrees, they are lengthened. The parts of the back and front halves in the center are subject to such stretching. If the item is made of thin fabric, it must be leveled in its finished form. Allowances are very important here (at least 5 centimeters at the bottom). Before sewing the pieces together, they need to be basted well.

When making a skirt from materials with a satin weave, before aligning the edge, you need to let the product hang for at least a day. If a lightweight fabric is chosen for work, then the thing can be made on an elastic band. In this case, it is allowed to insert it both along the entire waist circumference, and fragmentarily - two pieces along the side seams.

You shouldn't sew such a skirt from striped fabrics, as you'll have to work hard to match the pattern. And in this case, the material consumption will increase. When making a product from satin, you need to consider that the fabric will shine differently in the front and back. The reason for this is the bias cut.

If the item is made from thin fabric, it must be straightened in its finished form.
Before sewing the parts together, they need to be swept well.

What to wear with

So, how to sew the specified product with your own hands step by step is already clear. But not all girls know how to correctly combine the item with other types of clothing. Short skirts made of bright fabrics can be worn together with turtlenecks, T-shirts or tops with straps. Shoes with low heels or without them are perfect here. This image is used for daily meetings with friends.

A tweed item paired with a tight-fitting turtleneck will help create a discreet and very elegant look, suitable for business meetings. For romantic dates, it is better to wear a white jumper with a pattern in the chest area and a tulle midi skirt. The look will be gentle and soft.

A floor-length skirt looks good with a white blouse. A thin belt will help to complete the image, which will emphasize the waistline. As for shoes, high-heeled sandals in a classic style will do. To create an autumn look, you need a skirt made of knitted fabric. Satin blouses and knitted sweaters will suit it.
