Top down crochet cardigan with round yoke

Sweatshirts

Blouses, tops, tunics and tank tops with a round yoke look feminine and attractive. Such models make the image both gentle and elegant. Despite the fact that the market offers a wide range of knitted blouses, it is not always possible to find a suitable one. A homemade crochet blouse with a round yoke, knitted from top to bottom, will be an alternative option. With minimal crochet skills, the manufacturing process will take only a couple of days. Before starting work, you need to find suitable yarn, as well as decide on the pattern itself, the technique of knitting it.

Materials and tools

In order for a summer blouse to look right and be comfortable to wear, the product should be knitted from a suitable type of yarn. It is desirable that the threads be made of natural fiber, since it does not interfere with air circulation. The yarn must be of high quality, otherwise the product will quickly stretch and start to fade. A summer blouse with a round yoke can be made from a variety of different types of fiber, but there are several preferred varieties:

  1. Cotton is a universal classic material. Yarn made from such threads differs in thickness. For knitting, thicker fiber is used, and for crocheting, thinner fiber. Cotton does not become electrified, is breathable, and with proper care is not afraid of negative external influences. It is better to choose mercerized cotton, since this fiber is of the highest quality.
  2. Viscose is often used as an additive. Threads made from this fiber have a slight shine, hold their shape well, and do not impede air circulation.
  3. Acrylic yarn is a soft, gentle, pleasant to the touch fiber. It does not cause allergic reactions, does not fade and does not shrink after washing. In addition, such threads do not wrinkle. The disadvantages include the fact that acrylic accumulates static electricity and loses its original softness over time.

Of the tools for creating a blouse with an openwork yoke, you will need only one device - a hook. It can be made of different materials: wood, metal, plastic. You can choose any you like, the main thing is that the hook is well polished. It is also worth considering that the smaller the tool number, the thinner the yarn should be.

To create summer blouses, hooks with a thickness of 2–5 mm are most often used.

Technique of knitting a yoke and choosing a pattern

A round neckline is a standard classic option that is used in many models of blouses. Craftswomen often find this design method boring, so they try to play with it. Crocheting a yoke will make the blouse non-standard, interesting and fashionable. This decorative element is created in 2 ways:

  1. From the armpit upwards. The technique is often used to create whole pieces or if a fastener is planned to be installed on the blouse.
  2. From the neck to the armpits. In this case, the yoke is created according to the pattern from top to bottom.

The presence of an openwork pattern makes the item more attractive and feminine. It is worth considering that such ornaments differ in the technique of execution. In the absence of experience, it is recommended to choose simple patterns. The most unusual and elegant execution options are considered to be:

  • granny square - this type of yoke is made by sewing together several elements, which are tied with an openwork pattern along the edges;
  • Irish motifs - patterns are knitted separately, and then the elements are connected together;
  • Chinese charm - such yokes are separate collars that are worn over the product;
  • zigzag patterns - the ornament looks impressive, but is easy to knit;
  • mesh – the pattern is simple, so it is ideal for beginner craftswomen.

When choosing an ornament, you need to start from the style in which the blouse is knitted. It is also recommended to consider the density of the future product, the color of the yarn. For the summer months, it is recommended to choose openwork and lace patterns.

How to take measurements

Before you start crocheting a blouse with a round yoke using the top-down knitting technique, you need to decide on the parameters of the future product. If you do not take preliminary measurements, the blouse may not match the size or fit poorly. All you need is a measuring tape. The yoke parameters are calculated using the following values:

  • neckline length;
  • shoulder girdle circumference;
  • maximum body circumference over unclasped arms at the height of the armholes;
  • yoke length.

After the parameters of the decorative element are identified, it is necessary to determine the size of the blouse itself. Taking measurements is also done using a centimeter tape. The following values are needed:

  • chest circumference;
  • waist circumference;
  • hip circumference (if the blouse is long);
  • length of the product;
  • shoulder length;
  • back width.

It is worth considering that the measurements may change depending on what kind of blouse is being knitted. For example, a top with a round yoke is knitted without sleeves. Therefore, for such a product, you will not need to know the sleeve length.

Step-by-step master class on knitting a sweater

Before crocheting a tank top or tunic on a round yoke for women, you need to find a detailed diagram and description of the algorithm of actions. If you have no experience, it is recommended to start with the simplest models, otherwise the round yoke and the blouse itself may not work out. This master class describes the creation of a beautiful openwork model. For work, you will need 240 g of yarn, hook No. 2.

Abbreviations:

  • SC – single crochet;
  • VP – air loop;
  • ССН – double crochet;
  • СС2Н – double crochet.

Knitting is done from top to bottom, so first you need to dial the required number of air loops so that the neck passes well through the head, and close it in a circle with a connecting post. Then follow the instructions:

  1. The crochet yoke is created using the following pattern: crochet according to pattern #2. Then you need to divide the element into 2 equal parts: the front and the back. The front contains 22 elements of the crochet shown in pattern #2. The back contains 19 elements. 29 elements are left for the armholes.
  2. It is necessary to connect the front and back parts of the yoke with 45 VP, thus forming armholes. Then knitting is carried out in a circle: 1st row - СС2Н through 5 VP, repeat the required number of times. 2nd row - СС2Н.
  3. The next 20 rows are knitted according to pattern 3. The bottom is knitted according to the second pattern.
  4. To make the collar, attach the thread and knit the 1st row - SC through 7 VP (knitting is done in a circle). The remaining rows are not knitted in a circle. 2nd row: CC2H through 4 VP, repeat 27 times. From the 3rd to the 7th row - CC2H. 8th and 9th row - piping is done according to scheme 2.
  5. Next, the general binding is done. The collar, top and bottom on the yoke are bound in this way: 1st row СС2Н through 7 VP, repeat the required number of times. Then knitting is carried out according to scheme 4.

When tying the collar, tie the neck opening with SC, making 3 loops from VP for buttons. With minimal experience, making such a blouse will take no more than 3-5 days. Finally, you need to sew on the buttons. You can wear the blouse both in late spring and in summer. Such a thing is distinguished by its versatility, suitable for work and evening walks.

Decorating the product

Despite the fact that a crocheted sweater or top looks original in itself, craftswomen often decide to decorate them additionally. There are many techniques from fixing beads and bows from satin to creating complex appliques. Most often, knitted sweaters are decorated with the following materials:

  • satin ribbons of different widths - with their help you can create voluminous bows or flowers;
  • additional crocheted elements – you can make flowers, bows, butterflies from yarn, which will look interesting on the yoke;
  • beads – large metal or plastic balls can be sewn on randomly or in the form of an ornament.

As an alternative decoration you can use beads, patches, buttons, sequins. When choosing decoration, you need to be guided by the overall style of the blouse, and also take into account the color of the product. A yoke decorated with a scattering of rhinestones looks very interesting and mysterious.
