Knowing how to properly fold a shirt for placement in a drawer, on a shelf or in a suitcase, in any situation you will be able to look "spick and span". The information will be equally useful for women and men.

Simple folding methods for different shirt styles

If you properly lay out a product of any style and regardless of its subsequent location, even after a long period of time it will remain neat. How to fold a shirt depends on the model. Long sleeves will take the longest to work on. But it is quite possible to avoid creases and bends in the fabric, the main thing is to take into account some nuances.

Long sleeve

During all the manipulations, pay close attention to the cuffs, they are the ones that wrinkle most often. First, the clothes should be placed on a hard, flat surface - a table will do just fine. The back should be up. The item will need to be smoothed out, smoothing out the folds. Both halves should be symmetrical to each other, then there will be no problems. There are several methods for folding long-sleeved shirts. The most popular involves the following actions:

  1. Visually divide the back into 3 zones. The borders of the sides should be in the center of the shoulder. At this point, fold the side part. Carefully smooth out the fabric.
  2. Holding the product by the shoulder area, roll the sleeve along the folded side part, that is, lay it parallel.
  3. Perform similar manipulations on the other side - the sleeves will be located parallel to each other, forming a rectangle.
  4. Turn the bottom up by about 10 cm.
  5. Then fold it again so that the bottom part is near the collar.
  6. Turn the shirt over to the front side. The result is a neatly folded square.

The second method, explaining how to fold a men's shirt, is more complicated, but the execution scheme is similar:

  1. The back should be conditionally divided into 3 parts.
  2. Fold the side back and smooth out all the folds with your palm.
  3. Straighten the sleeve, the angle between it and the back should be 90˚. Then visually divide it into 3 parts. Fold, starting from the armpits, 3 times. The parts of the sleeve should be folded on top of each other, the cuff on top.
  4. Do the same with the second sleeve.
  5. As in the first method, fold the bottom 2 times in turn.

To prevent the products from getting wrinkled, do not apply excessive force, straightening the folds several times - this way, on the contrary, all the lines will be clearly visible.

Another method of folding consists of the following steps:

  1. Place the product with the back facing up and smooth it out.
  2. Fold the right sleeve back. The side of the product should be even.
  3. Holding the sleeve from above, place it parallel to the edge.
  4. Do the same with the left sleeve.
  5. Fold the shirt in half.

Success largely depends on the ability to correctly estimate the distance by eye. If difficulties arise, it is better to take a measuring tape.

With short sleeves

The process is a little easier and faster, especially when compared to the schemes already considered, since there is no need to think about the condition of the cuffs. A short-sleeved shirt is correctly folded like this:

  1. Place it on a hard surface and straighten out all its elements.
  2. Fold the bottom 10 cm, this is approximately the part that is tucked into the pants.
  3. Visually divide the back lengthwise into 3 zones. Fold the left side together with the sleeve.
  4. Repeat all the steps for the right side. The edge of the left side sleeve will also be folded. It is important to ensure that the lines remain straight, without creases.
  5. Fold the right side sleeve parallel to the edge of the product.
  6. Fold the shirt in half. The folded item is immediately placed in the suitcase.

Once you understand how to neatly fold shirts using this method, you can easily use similar algorithms. According to the second method, you need to start with the sides and sleeves, without touching the lower area. After you get a rectangle, you need to fold the shirt in three.

The third method is also not difficult. Even a beginner will understand how to fold shirts correctly:

  1. Straighten the product.
  2. Fold the left sleeve so that the edge of the shirt is even. Visually draw a line along the product (start near the collar). Fold the left side.
  3. Do the same with the right sleeve, and then with the side part.
  4. Fold the product in half.

There are also other, more complex methods of folding a shirt so that it does not wrinkle in a bag, which ensure that the product looks perfect even after being transported in a tight suitcase.

How to pack a product so that it does not get wrinkled

You need to take a lot of things on business trips: in addition to clothes, you need to pack personal hygiene products and other accessories in your suitcase. There is a high chance that your shirt will get wrinkled. That's why it's important to know how to fold shirts in a suitcase so that they look like they've been ironed. For this, you can use available materials - cardboard, plastic holders or wrapping paper, as well as special devices.

To ensure that your items look neat after transportation, it is advisable to pack them in a suitcase with hard walls.

Using cardboard

Using a cardboard backing, you can beautifully package a shirt as a gift. Even without a box, the item will retain its shape, so you won't be ashamed to give it as a gift. For greater presentability, it's worth wrapping the gift in wrapping paper or fabric, and wrapping it with a ribbon.

To pack a shirt, you will need thick rectangular cardboard. If the back is divided into 3 parts, then its width should occupy the entire center, the height - 1/3 of the length of the product. Then fold the cardboard into 2 parts so that a bend remains in the center. This will make the process of folding the item easier. The packaging technology consists of the following steps:

  • place the cardboard on the back, starting at the collar;
  • then follow the instructions depending on the method you choose.

To prevent your shirt from getting wrinkled in your suitcase, you can additionally line it with cardboard on all sides.

In the form of a roll

Rolled things take up less space, but the probability that folds will form and the clothes will lose their well-groomed appearance is still high. Nevertheless, in a number of situations this method is needed, so it will not be superfluous to know how to fold a shirt for travel in a roll correctly. The process looks like this:

  1. Place the product with the front side down.
  2. Fold the left sleeve along the shoulder line. The edge should be vertical. Repeat the same for the right sleeve.
  3. Starting from the bottom, roll the product up to the collar.

In the process, do not press too hard on the folds, as all your efforts may go to waste. The shirt should be placed in the suitcase with the collar facing up.

The roll method is not suitable for fabrics that wrinkle easily.

Using a mechanical device

Progress does not stand still, enterprising manufacturers have developed a special device for quick and neat folding of things. It is called a mechanical folding device. The device consists of three parts. With its help, you can fold any item of clothing, including men's shirts. It is quite easy to use. You need to put the clothes on the device. Then alternately fold the sides, then fold the product in half. This invention is useful for young people who have a lot of shirts in their wardrobe. But it has its downside - quite often, when folding quickly, folds remain.
